  Europe eXplorer – ageing population in Europe 1995-2007 for NUTS2 regions. Regions with a low percentage of population aged 65+ i.e. 16.1% (the 50th percentile) are coloured in blue. The motion bubble chart represents four indicators age 15-64, age 65+, total population (bubble size) and 65+ bubble colour. Three regions are highlighted: Liguria, Toscana and London. We see from the trails that both Italian regions have a negative trend for age group 15-64 years and London a positive. The time graph shows the trends for selected regions. The story providing the analytics reasoning and understanding of the data together with snapshots and is shown in the right panel.

  

• City of Gothenburg publishes their urban development plans

  Gothenburg city hall now publishes their urban development plans on-line in a far less complex and more accessible manner, enabling drill down by readers into areas they select of particular interest. Different modules of Statistics eXplorer have been integrated in the City of Gothenburg website – as such the city is pioneering. What used to be annual, lengthy printed reports concerning the development in the city can now be presented as an interactive blog: http://www.samhallsutvecklingen.se (English translation available). Users are able to interact with the dynamic map and diagrams, and are guided through the story by links that automatically change what is shown.

  

• ”Noi Italia – 100 indicators to understand Italy” in this interactive report

  The Code of Practice for European statistics, as regards dissemination, states that “European Statistics should be presented in a clear and understandable form, disseminated in a suitable and convenient manner, available and accessible on an impartial basis with supporting metadata and guidance”, that is the principle of accessibility and clarity. In this view the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) presents the interactive report “Noi Italia – 100 indicators to understand Italy” containing 120 indicators for 19 thematic sectors ranging from economic, social, demographic and environmental fields.   Sound information at sub-national level and benchmarking of regions across national borders has increased in importance in the policy agenda of many countries due to higher integration driven by institutional processes and economic globalisation. Geovisual analytics techniques help illustrating complex data such as regional, spatiotemporal and multidimensional statistics. Interactive time-linked visual representations enable the users to simultaneously analyse relations among different variables. “OECD Regional eXplorer”, developed by NComVA in collaboration with OECD, is today a worldwide recognized web-enabled tool for visualizing and better understanding the socio-economic structure of OECD regions and their performance over time.

  PISA 2009 Results presents the findings from the most recent PISA survey, which focused on reading and also assessed mathematics and science performance. Every three years, it assesses how far students near the end of compulsory education have acquired some of the knowledge and skills essential for full participation in society.

  Statistics eXplorer is the generic name for our server-based statistics visualization product to be used for any national and sub-national regions – Customized from our own GAV Flash class library. Complex statistics patterns can be detected through different visual representations simultaneously, each of which is best suited to highlight different pattern. All graphs are time-linked, important in the synthesis of animation within explorative statistical data analysis.
